We spoke mainly about childhood obesity and the LOW FODMAP diet. Childhood obesity is rapidly emerging as a global epidemic that will have profound public health consequences as overweight children become overweight adults. The rate of childhood obesity is rapidly increasing in Cyprus as well, as researches say 1 in 5 children is considered obese. During our talk we discussed the following:
- How can we prevent childhood obesity with healthy eating and exercise
- The role of parents in preventing childhood obesity
- Why parents should avoid using sweats as a reward of good behavior
- When is the right time to ask help from a Clinical Dietitian-Nutritionist
- Is dieting OK for kids?
We also spoke about the emerging dietary strategy that may help relieve symptoms for those with Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) called the Low FODMAP diet.
